Pregnancy Help Center

of Smith County

If you've already taken a test, please note that not all pregnancy tests are accurate. If your test is positive, please do not make any hasty decisions. You have plenty of time to look at your options and consider your choices. Please contact us to share the different options with you. Whatever choice you make will be permanent, and we will be with you every step of the way. We are here to love and support you throughout your decision making, and beyond.

Your three choices are: 1. Keep and raise the baby (single parenting/married/with help from your family), 2. Give the baby to a loving family through adoption (open adoptions are popular choices for mothers who feel they cannot give their baby the life they deserve that allow the birth parents to be involved with the life of the child), or 3. Abortion (the women who suffer the most from an abortion decision are those who made that decision without good information and made it out of fear and ignorance. You owe it to yourself to be fully informed about the risks).

Please remember that your body is going through a lot of very emotional changes right now due to your hormonal changes and/or personal home/school/work life, and you have time to get the facts about each option prior to making a decision. We have DVDs here at our center that you can watch to help you hear about other women's decisions, and how it affected them. You are not alone. You are not the first, nor the last woman to experience pregnancy.

Even if you are not a minor, you may want to confide in your mother. Let her know what's going on, and what you are feeling. She's either been through pregnancy, or she knows what it's like to not be able to conceive. If your mother is not available, think of a good friend who can be there for you. Different friends may make suggestions on what they think you should do. Please consider all of your options carefully before making any decisions, and be sure to get the facts about all of them. The Pregnancy Help Center staff also want to be there for you. Whether your pregnancy is planned or unplanned, we would like to be your friends. If you need help talking with your parents, we can do that, too.

The next step is to see an Obstetrician (OB/GYN) or midwife (these are both medical professionals who specialize in pregnancy and female issues) to make sure that your test was accurate, and that you are pregnant. If you need a referral or cannot afford an exam, please contact us. It is very important to seek medical care early in your pregnancy to ensure your baby gets a healthy start in life, and that you will have fewer problems with your pregnancy. One out of every four pregnancies ends in miscarriage.

If you have any of the following symptoms, call your doctor at once or seek medical advice from an emergency clinic immediately: Bleeding from the vagina, blurred vision, fainting, fever/chills, sharp abdominal pain, severe cramping, severe headaches, severe nausea and vomiting.

Read the following testimony from one of our volunteers:

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.  Maybe that’s what a young girl thinks after having an abortion. “I am free to go on without the burden of a child. “

As one who lost her first grandchild by abortion, I urge women and their confidants to consider some facts. One is that there is emotional baggage not usually anticipated. Another is that many others are affected. There are many couples waiting to adopt.  Even not talking about the decision sets up a tension in relationships before or after.

I learned that helping in a pregnancy care center would be a way of working through the grief. This is the second such place I’ve been connected, but still feel the loss of that baby. What would she be doing today?  Whose lives would she be enriching?

I do look forward to meeting her and my two miscarried babies, probably grown-up, when I cross into the Heaven promised by our Lord Jesus   I thank God for our Christian heritage and pray for those who have not yet accepted God’s love and plan for good. It’s comforting to know that God can relieve any burden we feel and that we are invited to live in His family for the rest of our lives
